According to an official from Governor Susana Martinez's office, Martinez was recently in El Paso with her father who has become "gravely ill."
A brother of Susana Martinez told KFOX-14 that their father, Jacobo Martinez was suffering from Alzheimer’s and cancer and that Hospice care was currently at his home.
Martinez's father is Jacobo “Jake” Martinez, a former sheriff deputy for El Paso county, Korean War veteran and boxer for the U.S. Marines.
Martinez was scheduled to speak at a luncheon on Friday in Las Cruces but had to cancel because of her ill father.
Martinez is an El Paso native and graduate of Riverside High School.
