LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

The New Mexico State University basketball player who allegedly beat up another party-goer, leaving him hospitalized was arrested and booked into jail.

Tyrone P. Watson, 22, is a senior forward, but not since he was suspended from the team on Jan. 31.

Las Cruces police investigators said that Watson was at a house party on Jan. 26 when he became upset after he saw his girlfriend dancing with 19-year-old Miguel Rascon.

Watson allegedly grabbed Rascon by the neck, forcing him outside where he punched him at least once, said police.

Witnesses at the party said people pulled Watson off of Rascon.

Rascon was hospitalized. He suffered several broken bones to his face.

Police said that after the attack, Watson contacted them later the same day after the fight, them telling them about the fight.

Watson was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a $5,000 bond.
