Newly elected state rep to continue former's work to save Village

By Genevieve Curtis

VINTON, Texas —

State Rep. Dee Margo's term will be ending soon, but his fight for the Village of Vinton is far from over.

"He's going to have to be a player; that's his district and that's important," Margo said. "It's a public health safety issue."

Margo dedicated much of his term to help Vinton by advocating to bring water and sewers to the small community. He condemned the actions of three council members who have denied the community millions of dollars in grants, plunged the village into debt and refused to pass a budget.

Margo was working with the delegation on different avenues they could use to help Vinton at the state level. Now, he said, newly elected Joe Moody will have to continue that effort.

"That's an issue that has to be addressed," Moody said. "I know that Rep. Margo worked on that, and I look forward to taking the baton and making sure the best thing happens for the people out in Vinton."

Margo has been working with the attorney general's office as well as county leaders. Margo said he won't abandon the residents.

"I don't care who gets the credit. I care about outcomes, and in this case, I care about the outcome of what's going on out there," Margo said. "It's ridiculous for them not to have the opportunity to bring in their own basic health, water and sewer. It's really – it's beyond me."
