EL PASO, Texas —

New technology helps U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers bust a teen on Friday for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the country.

Customs and Border Protection Officers say a teenager was caught Friday morning with 100 pounds of marijuana that was hidden in the car he was driving.
Officials are crediting a new piece of equipment that aided them in today's bust.

The equipment is called a Z-portal. It's the first X-ray machine that allows you to be X-rayed in the car, with as little radiation as a dental exam. The new X-ray machine uses low range radiation, and rapid scanning to show clear pictures of hidden contraband such as hidden stowaways, merchandise, security threats and narcotics.

In Friday's case, the teen tried crossing into the U.S. at the El Paso Del Norte port of entry.

"We ran him through the X-ray and saw some anomaly in his tires. It tested positive for marijuana," said U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, Ruben Jauregui.

This is the second bust this week while using the Z-portal machine. On Tuesday, a 21-year old was caught with 300 pounds of marijuana in his car.
