New solar farm plant located in Las Cruces

By Renee Narvaiz

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

City leaders gathered to dedicate the Las Cruces Centennial Solar Farm Wednesday.

The twelve-megawatt solar-power plant is located near the Las Cruces International Airport.

It's expected to produce more than 32-million kilowatt hours of clean solar energy in its first year alone.

Roberto Favela, El Paso Electric, said, "It helps a lot with the emissions of pollution but the diversity is always good. We have other means of meeting those demands, however, it's not as green."

El Paso Electric and SunEdison have teamed up on the solar plant. PNC Energy Capital helped finance it.
