New principal assigned to El Paso High

El Paso High gets a new principal

By Jamel E. Valencia

EL PASO,Texas —

Kristine Ferret was named principal of El Paso High on Wednesday.

In July, Luis Liano, former principal at El Paso High, was reassigned as a result of a decision made by the El Paso Independent School District board.

Nearly 400 students signed a petition in May against Liano, claiming that he neglected the school's academic programs, set a bad example for students and mistreated faculty, among other things.

Liano was reassigned as a facilitator in the Athletics Department at Central Office.

Ferret has been with EPISD since 2001 as an assistant principal and student activities manager at Richardson Middle School. She also was an assistant principal at Hornedo Middle School.

Ferret has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Western Oregon University and a Master of Education Degree in Education Leadership from the University of Oregon.

Tony Baca, former principal at Americas and Socorro high schools, was the substitute principal at El Paso High.
