SANTA FE, N.M. —

New Mexico adds a feature to its driver’s licenses to show that someone is a veteran officials announced Friday.

State officials said it will allow veterans to provide proof of service without carrying copies of their discharge papers.

No cost will be assessed for the veteran’s designation, however those who wish to replace their current licenses must pay an $18 replacement or renewal fee.

Forms that indicate military service are necessary for the state to issue the license.
