New Mexico Reports Five More Human West Nile Cases

EL PASO, Texas —

Five more New Mexicans have been diagnosed with West Nile virus infections.

State Department of health officials have been announcing new cases each Friday.

The cases include an 11-year-old Curry County boy with meningitis and a 73-year-old Dona Ana County man with meningitis. Both have recovered.

The other cases include a 72-year-old Dona Ana County with encephalitis, a 68-year-old Bernalillo County man with encephalitis and a 76-year-old San Juan County man with encephalitis and meningitis. All three remain in the hospital.

New Mexico has reported 13 human cases of West Nile virus infections this year.
