New Eastside soccer complex in progress

El Paso city staff instructed by council to find big enough plot of land.

EL PASO, Texas - —

For soccer players in El Paso getting a 12, or more soccer, field soccer complex would be a goal.

"The soccer complex is tremendously necessary here in El Paso," James Mendoza said.

A soccer complex project is in this November's upcoming quality of life bond, for more than $100 million.

But even with all that cash, as of right now, there's nowhere to put it.

"No site is termed," City Manager Joyce Wilson told KFOX 14.

City council instructed city staff Tuesday to figure out where the soccer field could go.

Wilson said her staff look at city owned land first.

"(Then) we're basically going to be looking at land we don't own," Wilson said.

East side soccer coach and parent James Mendoza, he said he really doesn't care where a new facility goes.

However, he claims the east side makes the most sense since the west side has a new complex that was just built.

And that it would bring big money to the Sun City.

"My team, my parents, spend a $1,000 a week when we go to San Diego, Vegas, Albuquerque. Wouldn't it be better just to bring that money here to El Paso?" Mendoza asked.

There is no clear deadline for when a site will be proposed.
