LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

High levels of carbon monoxide has caused a senior center to close down twice since December, and officials said the Munson Center will reopen Wednesday.

The Las Cruces Fire Marshal authorized the reopening of the center on Tuesday. The senior center provided meal services and recreational opportunities to senior citizens in the area.

"Recreational activities will resume as normal tomorrow (Wednesday), with a resumption of food services on Monday, Jan. 28," said Lori Grumet, senior programs administrator.

As KFOX14 previously reported, the center closed on Dec. 7 and repairs were completed Dec. 26. However the issue wasn't properly fixed, and the center closed again on Jan. 7.

Earlier this month, technicians told KFOX14 that the culprit was the building's boiler system and a gas range vent hood.

City staff was allowed back into the building Tuesday afternoon.

While the center was closed, the range hood in the kitchen was cleaned and serviced. The vent motor was replaced as a preventative measure, officials said.

For the remainder of the week, Dial-a-Ride patrons who normally dine at the center will be transported to the east side center at 310 N. Tornillo St.

Patrons who drive themselves will be served at the Benavidez Center, 1045 McClure Rd. or the Eastside Center.
