EL PASO, Texas —

The group that purchased the Triple-A baseball team coming to El Paso, MountainStar and the Pacific Coast League made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

The purchase of the Tucson Padres is a done-deal.

There is no team name but owners of the baseball team said El Pasoans will be able to name the team through a contest. They also said “El Paso” must be in the name.

Residents will be able to choose a mascot.

The season is expected to begin in 2014.

The owners of the MountainStar Sports Group said they are certain Triple-A baseball is going to change the quality of life of the Sun City for the better.

Hunt said, “As we’ve said all along, we believe this new ballpark will have a tremendous impact on economic development and will contribute to the revitalization of our downtown.  We think we will begin seeing a positive change in our downtown very quickly.”

Owners reassured El Pasoans will have a memorable and affordable experience for families, $5 ticket will be available.

They said the planned stadium a bi-national and tri-state connection that will give the borderland a new cultural experience.

The president of the Pacific Coast League, Branch B. Rickey, said this purchase changes the city's stature at a national level.

The first pitch is still a while away, but the next item on the agenda is the demolition of City Hall.

That’s where the new baseball stadium will be built.

KFOX14 asked if the lawsuit filed by former El Paso mayor Ray Salazar to stop that demolition may affect the city's plans. We were told it wasn’t a concern by mayor John Cook.

A website titled http://www.elpasotriplea.com/ has just launched with season ticket information, employment opportunities and a mock up of the soon-to-be-built Triple-A baseball stadium.
