EL PASO, Texas —

Cyber torment came to a 12-year -old girl and her parents on Wednesday after someone took her picture without her knowledge, posted it online and turned her world upside down.

As a result of the post, the preteen said she's received threats and insults on Facebook. Her mother took her out of school, concerned about her safety.

Melisa Sanchez cried as she spoke about the alleged attack on her daughter that she said happened on Facebook. She believes it all stemmed from a dispute her daughter had with another girl about a boy in school.

Sanchez said someone took a picture of her 12-year-old daughter's behind at Slider Middle School, and posted it online. Hurtful comments started being posted online calling the preteen's body "saggy" and others calling her a "ho" and "slutty."

After that, she says threats were posted about wanting to beat up her daughter.

"This is not a game. This really hurt April. It hurt her to the point that she is afraid to go to school and fears for her life. My own daughter wanted to take her own life all because of a picture. One little thing makes a difference in someone's life," Sanchez said.

Socorro Independent School District officials said they cannot speak on this specific case.

"I can assure you we do take action, whether it's as simple as calling parents, or bringing them in for mediation, or calling the police. It just depends on the situation," said Socorro Assistant Superintendent Pat O'Neil.

Sanchez said she has pulled her daughter out of the school because she fears for her safety. She says she's now looking at the possibility of home schooling April.
