EL PASO, Texas —

More than 1,000 pounds of marijuana was found hidden inside a vehicle a Socorro, N.M., mother was driving.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Ysleta international crossing at the El Paso port of entry made the decision to make a secondary exam of a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The pickup truck was being driven by 32-year-old Palma Lyon. Lyon, who had her two children in the truck, was trying to smuggle in 1,061 pounds of marijuana, said officers.

The drugs were found hidden inside a portion of a quarter panel, gas tank, floor and spare tire of the truck, said CBP officials.

Lyon was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI agents and arrested in connection with the failed smuggling attempt. She is currently detained at the El Paso County Jail with no bond. The children were turned over to a relative.
