EL PASO, Texas —
An indictment in the ongoing public-corruption case has again been sealed, possibly because more people will be charged or because those already indicted might face more charges.
Two former agents in charge of the El Paso FBI office said it's very rare to seal cases after they have already been made available to the public.
An indictment against LKG Enterprises Inc., Ruben "Sonny" Garcia, its owner, and Cirilo "Chilo" Madrid, an associate, was unsealed on Dec. 16, the day the two men were arrested. It had been sealed for two days before their arrests and it was listed as again sealed Wednesday on a federal court-records database. It is not clear when the indictment was sealed the second time.
Former County Judge Dolores Briones was charged separately in the matter.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo granted a motion by Assistant U.S. Attorney Juanita Fielden to file seven sealed documents in Briones' case.
