EL PASO, Texas —
Gabriel Chavez's home looks just like new, and even though it is not even 3 years old, according to Chavez it has lots of problems.
Chavez said the issues include the foundation, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning and the roof, which is leaking.
As KFOX 14 has reported, others have come to KFOX 14 with similar problems.
KFOX 14 has shown a home video where one of the city inspectors admits they did not have enough inspectors during the housing boom, so inspections were not always thorough.
"The city is supposed to be behind you and protect you and whenever they let these, especially all these violations go, who can you turn to?" said Chavez, from far east El Paso.
City officials said if anyone thinks their home was not properly inspected, they want to know about it so they can come back out and re-inspect the home.
The city has set up a new hotline residents can call.
"Certainly the intent behind the hotline and the services that are offered is to provide professional customer service and to provide an honest mechanism where we can receive feedback," said Julie Baldwin-Munoz with the city of El Paso Engineering Department.
Citizens with questions or concerns can contact the engineering department at 915-541-4558.
Anyone having issues with permits or inspections in general wanting to remain anonymous can call 877-452-3598.
