EL PASO, Texas —

A 21-year-old man was arrested after more than $200,000 worth of marijuana was found hidden in his car, officials said.

Jordan Herrera was turned over to federal officials after he failed to smuggle drugs into the United States from the Ysleta international bridge crossing, officials said.

Around 6 a.m. Tuesday, Herrera entered the crossing from Mexico in a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers scanned the vehicle with an X-ray. Officers then examined the vehicle and found bundles of marijuana hidden inside the back seats and other locations throughout the vehicle, officials said.

A total of 216 bundles of marijuana weighing 306.59 pounds were seized. The drugs had an estimated street value of $244,800, officials said.

"Officer expertise and high technology were key factors in this seizure," said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso port director. "CBP officers had concerns about this vehicle and our X-ray systems confirmed their beliefs.
