Moody Vs. Margo: District 78 Candidate Profiles

EL PASO, Texas —

In West El Paso Friday, supporters campaign for Dee Margo and State Rep. Joe Moody, District 78, peacefully. But for the candidates it's a different story.

The race between Margo and Moody has gotten bitter. Margo said Moody took the first political jab.

"On one particular bill Joe voted to increase income taxes on a stealth income on homeowners." Margo said.

Margo also accused Moody of plagiarizing.

Moody defended himself.

"Mr. Margo has a history of, in all of his campaigns whether it be 2006, 2008 the primary or general election, of distorting people records,” Moody said.

Both candidates agreed that the medical school expansion was important, along with getting the University of Texas at El Paso to a tier one status. But what have they done for area residents lately?

"Besides grow our business and create jobs, I was a civilian aid secretary of the U.S. Army for eight years. I was heavily involved in the Base Realignment and Closure Process," said Dee Margo.

Moody said he has been strong on legislation.

"We passed the largest piece of anti-gang legislation in the entire state, legislation that was touted by Gov. Rick Perry," Moody said.
