EL PASO, Texas —
Mexican officials have announced that Ricardo Valles de la Rosa confessed to being a lookout in the killings of El Paso couple Lesley Enriquez and Arthur Redelfs and another man, according to Mexican media.
Valles also reportedly claims that the killings were not carried out because of the victims’ ties to the U.S. consulate, but rather the target was Redelfs, Mexican media said.
Redelfs was an El Paso County Sheriff’s detention officer and was said to be targeted because Barrio Azteca gang members did not like how Redelfs treated their fellow gang members in jail, Mexican media said.
KFOX spoke exclusively to Valles’ family Wednesday about the alleged confession and his arrest. Family members, that did not want to be identified, said if Valles made a confession it was coerced by torture.
"Three people got shot from the consulate, it's sad; it is it is sad because nobody wants that for their family. Because of that, they arrested my brother with no evidence," said one family member.
"He is very hurt. They tortured him, they burned his feet, they burned his knee, they put water inside nose and his face, to make him say he was responsible," said another family member.
There is no word what is next for Valles.
