Meeting To Look At Traffic Solutions

The idea behind a special city council meeting Monday night at 6 p.m. is to discuss completing Loop 375, and creating relief routes for I-10. The goal aims for congestion on our already busy highways. El Pasoans have mixed views on this agenda.

Randy Urbina, of West El Paso, said, "I think we all should pay our taxes, of course I do, and I have no problem with that."

Kira Gosnell, of West El Paso, said, "I just barely got a job, but you know most students don't have any money. I guess that would be somewhat of a main target, as far as getting funds for it, someone asking things of us."

And while most El Pasoans want bigger and better roads, that also means more construction, which many hope will happen while they sleep.

Gosnell said, "They can work on it during the night, instead of right in the middle of the day like at peak hours, morning hours, or even five o'clock, let's work on the road."

Which is what TXDot will be doing Monday night. With current construction on I-10, they will close all lanes heading westbound.

Eddie Valtier, a TXDot engineer, said, "What we're asking the public is not to be out if you don't have to, we do have a detour route."

The city council says El Paso will grow over 63 percent in the next 25 years, and that the current transportation system is considered old and very high maintenance. The meeting will take place in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
