Proposed road extension around Sun Bowl

By Jesse Martinez

EL PASO, Texas —

More road work and roundabouts are headed to Sun Bowl Drive, and a meeting will be held Tuesday to discuss the project's specifics.

As KFOX14 previously reported, this spring, the Texas Department of Transportation will add two lanes on the stretch of Sun Bowl Drive that only has one lane in both directions for eastbound and westbound traffic.

Crews will also add sidewalks, but there will be more than extra lanes added to the road -- there are also plans for another roundabout.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the El Paso Natural Gas Conference Center in the University of Texas at El Paso's campus.

The Sun Bowl widening project will cost $4.5 million, and the bill is being split among UTEP, TxDOT and state funding. The project could take 10 months to a year to complete.
