McDonald's Statement:

"Providing my customers with a safe and clean dining experience is a top priority. My restaurant managers and crew employees are highly trained and qualified in all aspects of food safety and restaurant sanitation. My restaurant's health inspection reports consistently reflect compliance with the El Paso City-County Heath and Environmental District Food Inspection Program.

However, in an abundance of caution, we’ve thoroughly cleaned and sanitized our water filtration system, ice machines and beverage dispenser to ensure they are operating properly and maintained to our stringent quality standards.

After consulting with food safety and sanitation experts, I would ask that the reporter reconsider his claims based on scientific inaccuracies in the reporting of the results:

Because only one sample was analyzed, the possibility for error was very high. The claim that bacteria presence was reported as “too innumerable to count” cannot be accurate at the levels reportedly found by the lab.

The substances claimed to be found are not commonly tested in water, and don’t have any significance in ice, where they cannot grow.

Food safety and sanitation will never be compromised in my restaurants. I will continue to work with the El Paso City-County Health Department to ensure the continued operation of safe, clean restaurants."
