"Manhunt Monday" Fugitive Arrested In East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas —

A tip helped El Paso deputies locate a fugitive Thursday who's been wanted since November 2009.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office received a tip on the whereabouts of James Montez, 21, who was wanted on a charge of escaping while in police custody. He was arrested on Aug. 11, 2008, after police said they discovered the vehicle he was driving was stolen. He tried to run, but was caught He's since failed to show for court, deputies said.

Montez was found Thursday morning on the 1600 block of N. Zaragoza. He fled from deputies, but was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

The 21-year-old faces additional charges of evading detention, assault on a peace officer and possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.
