EL PASO, Texas —

Fire investigators said a man set his own home on fire in northeast El Paso. He was arrested and charged with arson.

The fire started at a home on Redwood near Sun Valley.

A police officer responded to a call about 23-year-old Rudy Phillip Villanueva breaking windows at his own home with a bat, and called firefighters after he noticed curtains inside a bedroom were on fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but the home was heavily damaged.

Villanueva suffered cuts to both hands and feet from the broken windows.

No one else was injured.

Villanueva was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center with a $25,000 bond.
