Man In Overnight Rollover Hospitalized

EL PASO, Texas —

A 23-year-old man was taken to the hospital overnight after the truck he was in rolled over in far west El Paso.

The rollover happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday near North Desert Boulevard and Artcraft Road. According to police, Lorenzo Loera was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma west on Interstate 10 at a high-rate of speed when he lost control and struck a cable that separates both sides of Interstate 10.

An investigation conducted by the El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigators unit revealed that Loera's vehicle slid across the westbound lanes into a dirt embankment, which caused the truck to roll over, police said.

Emergency crews took Loera to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Investigators determined that Loera wasn't wearing his seat belt, which they believe is the reason he was ejected from the truck.

Police said they believe speed, alcohol, and failure to wear a seat belt are factors in rollover

Roads in the area were closed for two hours and 30 minutes.

An ongoing investigation continues.
