Man to face jury for allegedly stabbing girlfriend's father to death

By Kandolite Flores

EL PASO, Texas —

A family fight in the lower valley left one man dead and another now facing a jury on murder charges.

Ruben Canales, 21, allegedly stabbed and killed his girlfriend's father Gerardo Juarez, 39, in February and is now being charged with murder.

KFOX14 first reported about the verbal fight that escalated, sending Juarez to Del Sol Hospital where he eventually died because of a stab wound.

According to the arrest affidavit, the men were at a home on the 200 block of Maravilla Drive in the Lower Valley Feb.3 around 10 p.m. when they got into an argument in the kitchen.

Police said the fight quickly got out of control when Canales grabbed a knife which led to a physical fight between the two and left Juarez severely injured. He later died because of a stab wound to his back near his kidneys.

Canales will face a jury for the first time Monday at 9 a.m.
