Man Dies After Fall From Spaghetti Bowl

EL PASO, Texas —

According to his family, 38-year old David Marin was driving his motorcycle on an on-ramp that is part of the "spaghetti bowl," the section that takes you from U.S. 54 to I-10 West, when something went horribly wrong around 2 a.m. Saturday. They say Marin fell from his bike, from the onramp, to the water collection area below.

The family of Marin knew early on Saturday that something bad had happened.

"Family members noticed he was missing, phone calls were made, a tow truck found the motorcycle, but did not find him," said Martin Marin, David Marin's uncle.

Police found the motorcycle located the on-ramp that connects U.S. 54 to I-10 West.

"They didn't see anything other than the motorcycle. At that moment they began to search the area, and actually canvassed this area under the "spaghetti bowl." Unfortunately they were not able to find anything," said Javier Sambrano with the El Paso Police Department.

When one of David Marin's family members came out during the day, that's when they found his body lying in the water collection area under the onramp. This family now has to deal with loss twice in one week.

"He was with us on Thursday when we buried my father. Being a Navy SEAL, he joined the line of veterans to bid my father fairwell," said Martin Marin.

Police at this point do not know if David Marin was hit by another vehicle or if he collided with the wall, but his uncle said David Marin always drove safely.

"David was an extremely careful motorcycle rider. He never rode without his helmet. He was wearing it last night," said Martin Marin.

Marin leaves behind a wife and two young children.

"David was a doting father. His children and his family always came first. They will miss him being there during those precious moments that one experiences growing up with a child," said Marin.

Police shut down the onramp for a number of hours to conduct an investigation where the most important thing for them to find out is if another vehicle was involved in this tragic crash.
