LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Las Cruces police said they arrested a man who they said was pretending to be a woman after he allegedly stabbed to police officers with a pen.

Police said 30-year-old Demetrius York, a native of Okinawa, Japan, was in a local hospital claiming he was an escaped female sex slave.

Police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers uncovered his real identity and were attacked when they tried to arrest him, officers said.

Two officers suffered puncture wounds from the pen stabbing, but not enough to do them any serious damage, police said.

York entered a plea of not guilty Monday to two counts of aggravated battery on an officer with a deadly weapon and six counts of aggravated assault on an officer with a deadly weapon.
