EL PASO, Texas —
According to El Paso police, 21-year-old Thomas Pickett was charged with accident causing personal injury or death.
El Paso police detectives said Pickett began arguing with a group of people at a Dyer Street gas station. Adrian Cardenas died as a result of a hit-and-run crash that occurred after the confrontation around 2:20 a.m.
Police said Pickett was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Impala that hit and killed Cardenas, who was standing in the parking lot as Pickett was fleeing the area after the confrontation. Police said that when they arrived, they found Cardenas and another man injured.
Cardenas was transported to William Beaumont Army Medical Center where he died, said Darrel Petry with the El Paso Police Department.
Pickett was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on Feb. 2 and charged with accident causing personal injury or death.
Cardenas’ death is the city’s 11th traffic-related death in 2011.
