EL PASO, Texas —

A 61-year-old man was caught sneaking in 36.74 pounds of cocaine into the U.S. over the weekend.

Florencio Salomon Cervantes of Las Cruces was driving a 2006 Honda Ridgeline when a drug-sniffing dog alerted U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers to an area between the cab and bed of the vehicle, CBP officials.

Officers found a compartment containing 14 cocaine-filled bundles that tested positive for cocaine.

The seizure was valued at about $1,175,680, according to CBP officials.

Cervantes was taken into custody and booked him into the El Paso County jail to face federal prosecution. He remains in custody and is being held without bond.
