Lunar Eclipse Covers Borderland Sky

El Paso, Texas —

KFOX got a glimpse of a rare celestial event early Tuesday morning.

The earth's shadow crept across the moon's surface, turning it shades of orange and red.

The total lunar eclipse is the second this year.

An eclipse occurs when earth passes between the sun and the moon, blocking the sun's light.

It's rare because the moon is usually either above or below the plane of earth's orbit.
