Lower Valley man's car set on fire

Man: car was brand new

By Veronica Macias

EL PASO, Texas —

A Lower Valley man's car is destroyed after someone intentionally sets it on fire. Fire crews responded to the call at 1:30 am on Monday on Valle Alegre Drive. They say they are investigating the cause of the fire that cost him his car.

The car owner says he had just purchased the car and fears he will not be able to recoup any of the money he spent to get the car since he only has liability insurance.

"Around 1:15 a.m. or 1:20 a.m., I heard a loud pop, car owner Nick Talles said. "Then I look out the window and then I see a light kind of illuminating across the front yard, so I see my car on fire. Then I jumped up and picked up the phone 911."

This case of an intentional fire is the second case in April.

"I feel like I was targeted because my fire started completely different from the one in the Northeast," Talles said. "My gas cap hasn't been opened; there was no rag thrown in there, so it obviously started another way."
