Location for new 911 call center for Dona Ana County unknown

Dona Ana County

DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. —

The architect of a new 911 call center for Dona Ana County said he has read the design plans, but has no place to start building,

Dona Ana County commissioners heard from the Steve Newby, the building's architect, on Tuesday about how the building will be constructed.

It's planned to be able to fit 50 dispatchers and hold a training room.

During a meeting, county commissioners pointed out that the design plans are not concrete because the building doesn't have an actual budget set aside for it yet.

"We have to build in flexibility not only for the reality of how the building will be used but also for budgetary reasons. We have to squeeze every square foot out of this building that we can," said Newby.

The county is expected to narrow down the proposed location for the new call center to the top three choices during next week's meeting.

There's expected to be a final vote Dec.10.
