West Valley Fire Department hosts carnival for cancer-stricken girl

VINTON, Texas – —

The West Valley Fire Department hosted their third annual Angel Fund Carnival.

Folks in Vinton got to enjoy food, rides, gamesand a firefighter rappelling challenge.

The goal of the carnival was to raise money for a 15-year-old girl in Anthony, Texas, whois battling brain cancer.

"The first year, we did it for one of our members, his wife was battling cancer, and they were struggling, so we did it for them," said Capt. Martin Lerma of the WVFD. "The next year, one of our other members was in the same situation, so we did it for him, and we're just trying to keep it going now."

The fire department plans to continuehosting the event to try andhelp out people battling illnesses such as cancer.

Capt. Lerma added that the weekend event would not have been possible without the help of the West Valley team, as well as their sponsors.
