Three Legged Monkey Bar Wins In Bankruptcy Court

By Geoff Tyler

EL PASO, Texas —

The Three Legged Monkey bar has been battling in Bankruptcy Court for more than 6 months. The Court's ruling came down on Friday saying the bar can stay open right where it is located.
the latest ruling was handed down just this week.

It's taken me $700,000 to get this verdict and substantiate my position," said Three Legged Monkey bar owner Mike Armstrong. He is celebrating his win that happened in bankruptcy court.

"The judge decided we were able to assume the lease. allows us to stay in business," said Armstrong.

He was forced to file bankruptcy to keep the city from trying to buy out his lease. Complaints of noise level, parking issues, and fights have spurred impressions of the local sports bar hot spot.

The city council had previously voted to stop the bar from getting its liquor license, and tried to buy the shopping center that the bar is in. The council even tried to void the bar's lease at its current location.

" Location is an asset and a reason why businesses are successful," said Armstrong.

The bankruptcy judge agreed with Armstrong, saying that if the bar did not stay in its current location that it would be out of business and his employees would lose their jobs, which would be disastrous. The bar must now pay toward debts and property taxes within 30 days to stay open.Neighbors in the area had mixed reactions about the ruling.

"If the law comes down and says to abide. We've got to go ahead and live with it", said local resident Gary Lucas.

"I was disappointed when I heard the court's decision. I mean you get angry, and then you just have to move on," said Ellen Brissette.

The ruling, however, has Armstrong looking for a little payback in the courtroom.

"Oh, I'm talking about me filing litigation. We're no longer going to be on the defensive. We're going to be on the offensive. This gives me substantiation to take action against entities such as the city manager," said Armstrong.

There are some new changes planned for inside the bar as well, including new menu items and some celebrities making appearances.
