Socorro ISD employee accused of inappropriate conduct with student

By Natalie Tripp

SOCORRO, Texas —

Socorro Police and Socorro Independent School District have confirmed a teacher's aide is on administrative leave after allegations surfaced of inappropriate conduct between the employee and a student.

"We can't disclose much right now because of the nature of the crime and the age of the victim," said David Garcia, spokesman for Socorro Police. "Something this serious though has to be completely investigated by everyone."

Garcia confirmed the investigation has been ongoing for less than a month and police detectives are actively involved.

Daniel Escobar, spokesman for Socorro ISD, released a statement Tuesday afternoon.

"All allegations concerning student safety and security are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. To ensure the integrity of the process and continued safety of students and staff, individuals implicated are immediately removed from the environment pending the outcome of the investigation. The District takes the appropriate action necessary to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff while respecting the rights of all parties involved in accordance with law and our judicial system."

Parents of students at Campestre elementary school contacted KFOX 14 with concerns after they heard about the allegations through the grapevine. They said the employee is an assistant coach at the school and were worried that the school hadn't alerted them to the issue before they heard rumors.

"I feel if Dr. De La Torre had shown up and said 'You know what? Allegations were made, please don't jump to conclusions.' Something like that so we know he's got it under control," said a parent who wished to remain anonymous in order to protect his students at the school. "It kind of makes me feel insecure about my children because they're there most of the day. If something happens to one of them I worry the school district will try to cover itself, not the safety of my child."

The parent also commended the elementary school’s principal Isabel Andresen on how well she had quickly handled smaller matters in the past.
