EL PASO, Texas —

The woman who was found guilty of beating her 2-year-old goddaughter to death received a 33-year prison sentence Thursday.

Shawntrell Dawkins was found guilty of murder but not capital murder Wednesday at the El Paso County Courthouse.

Dawkins faced anywhere between five and 99 years in prison, but she will be given credit for her time spent in jail. She was also not given a fine.

Dawkins has been in jail for nearly five years since she was charged in the beating death of her goddaughter Milayna Harris.

Police found the 2-year-old's body after they responded to Dawkins' east El Paso home back in April 2008.

Autopsy pictures revealed she had 10 blows to her head and numerous bruises to the body, pictures that made one of the jurors run out of the court room in tears.

Dawkins' husband Nakia, is also in jail awaiting his sentencing.

Another jury found the former Army Staff Sergeant, guilty of injury to a child, but deadlocked on a sentence.
