EL PASO, Texas —

Thanks to a federal grant, Sun Metro will be receiving $1.2 million for 14 new lift buses.

Lift buses are specialized buses that help people with disabilities get where they need to go a lot faster, according to a press release by Sun Metro.

The new grant money will replace some of the older, broken-down buses that run on regular gasoline with new buses that run on compressed natural gas.

"I think they're stepping in the right direction," said Socorro resident Mauro Soto. "I think that is going to help the people in the community and the people that actually need them."

According to Sun Metro, El Paso was the only Texas city out of 27 to be given the national grant.

West El Paso resident Artaban Flores likes the fact that El Paso was one of the cities granted this award.

"El Paso is a city that is focused on family and work," said Flores, "and providing a better community as itself is great." said Flores.

Sun Metro said the new buses will not only benefit those who use the lift system, but all residents as well by reducing harmful emissions.
