EL PASO, Texas —

Former President of the United States Bill Clinton officially endorsed El Paso Congressman Silvestre Reyes Tuesday afternoon at the County Coliseum.

"The issue here is simple," Clinton said. "Who is more likely to do more in the next two years to help bring back the economy to El Paso and America? Silvestre Reyes is loyal, he's true, he's strong, and you can depend on him."

President Clinton focused on Reyes's efforts to help those on Social Security and Medicaid. He said knows El Paso has a history of loyalty to his family and hoped that loyalty would continue with his support of Reyes.

"For those on Social Security, we have no better friend that Bill Clinton," Reyes said.

Crowds filled the coliseum to nearly half capacity. The rally had a late start because President Clinton was delayed leaving his previous speaking engagement in Las Vegas. A spokesman for Congressman Reyes said the delay was not security related.

Both politicians reminded the crowd that early voting for the upcoming election starts May 15, and the election only counts if people show up, according to President Clinton.
