EL PASO, Texas —

After seizing nearly 20 pounds of cocaine, U.S. Customs Border and Protection officers arrested a woman traveling with her two 3-year-old children, officials said.

The cocaine was hidden inside the doors of a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo, which was being driven from Juarez to El Paso.

The seizure was made at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Paso Del Norte international crossing. CBP officers were performing a sweep of vehicles waiting in line to enter El Paso when a drug-sniffing dog alerted them to the vehicle.

Officers then scanned the vehicle and found black bundles of cocaine, which weighed 19.7 pounds, officials said.

"Nearly 20 pounds of cocaine seized in a single incident is significant," said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso port director. "The various layers of enforcement CBP uses led to this important enforcement action."

Ruth Angelica Torres Torres, 27, was arrested by CBP and then turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI agents on federal charges relating to the failed drug smuggling attempt.

She is being held without bond at the El Paso County Jail.
