A man died after being hit by a car trying to cross Alameda Avenue east of Americas Avenue in the Lower Valley, El Paso police said.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the man was crossing the street when he was hit by a red Ford Mustang driving east.

The driver who hit the man called 911, and stayed at the scene during the investigation.

Several witnesses also stayed and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police don't believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Alameda Avenue was shut down both ways between Americas Avenue and Inglewood Drive for about four hours.

Police tell KFOX14 the man who was hit by the car was not carrying any form of ID.

Police are now trying to figure out who this man is so they can notify family members.
