EL PASO, Texas —
Texas Governor Rick Perry has slipped up twice in one month when addressing a large audience on his campaign trail, but this last slip up has particularly caught the attention of local college students.
While speaking to a group of students at New Hampshire's Saint Anselm College, Perry asked the students to support him, but he didn't ask for everyone's support.
""Those of you that will be 21 by November the 12, I ask for your support and your vote," said Perry. "Those of you who won't be, just work hard, because you're going to inherit this, and you're counting on us getting this right. "
Larry Morgan is a student at UTEP and a registered voter.
"He got the voting age wrong, it's 18 in New Hampshire and the rest of the country," said Morgan. "I'm pretty sure he also got the date wrong."
Morgan is correct about the date on a couple of counts. The general election will take place on Nov. 6, 2012. But more pressing is the first presidential primary election on Jan. 10 in the very state the Governor Perry was addressing- New Hampshire.
Richardo Gonzalez, also a student a UTEP, said he can understand the kind of pressure Perry must be facing, but also adds that it shouldn't be an excuse.
"All of us, when we get put on the spot in front of hundreds of thousands of people can misspeak," Gonzalez said. "But it's his job. He's been doing it for a long time so you kind of expect him to represent us better."
Gonzalez said he wishes Perry would focus on his strong points, like the strength of the Texas economy during the recession, or say nothing at all.
Governor Perry came under fire a few weeks ago during a debate when he forgot the third agency of government he would reform if elected president.
