Furniture store blames computer glitch for incomplete delivery

By Natalie Tripp

EL PASO, Texas —

Just as the two Room Store furniture locations are launching their bankruptcy liquidation sales, complaints across the borderland are accusing the store of incomplete deliveries.

Andrea Deas bought a bedroom set from Room Store Furniture in mid-December. Nearly three months later Deas is she's still waiting on her bed frame.

"They brought the mirror first, then the chest, then the night stand, then the dresser, and now I'm just waiting on the rest of it," said Deas, who moved to El Paso in November and was using the furniture for her new apartment. "If I had known they were going to file for bankruptcy three weeks after I bought the furniture I wouldn't have given them my money."

Lorraine Garcia and her husband paid for two living room sets, a dining room set, and a bedroom set also in mid-December.

"What am I supposed to do with half a china cabinet," Garcia asked. "I'm still waiting for the hutch, and we also only received four out of the eight dining room chairs."

KFOX 14 contacted the corporate offices of Room Store to speak about the incomplete deliveries, and a spokesperson said the company was undergoing a series of changes.

"There was a switch in the processing system about the same time those purchases were made," said Lisa Brock, spokesperson for Room Furniture. "The purchases were also made before the company came under new management about a month ago, but we will work to fix this mess."

Room Store has guaranteed to ship the head and foot boards free of cost to Deas and refund the cost of the unshipped furniture to the Garcias. Brock also said the company is closing its stores in El Paso, Austin and Houston, but hasn't had any complaints since new CEO Steve Giordano took over.

"Since our new owner, there's been a complete redo of everything," Brock said. "He's a very inspired leader, he knows consumers, and he's a problem solver."
