El Paso's largest job fair starts Tuesday, and as the presidential election nears, some say it could affect the way they vote.

More than 8,000 people are expected to attend this year's job fair, according to Workforce Solutions of Rio Grande, the agency behind the job fair, partly because El Paso's unemployment rate is reported at 9.3%, higher than the national average, which is at 8.1%.

Although these job fairs don't guarantee anyone will get a job, most El Pasoans KFOX14 spoke with said they aren't so confident either.

"It's very helpful, but it's pretty hard to find a job here in El Paso," said Central El Paso resident Juan Garcia, "And if you get a job, you get a bad job. Like those minimum wage jobs,"

Most said El Paso doesn't offer jobs that offer great benefits, and that the lack of jobs will have a big role in determining who they will choose in this year's elections.

"For me personally it was really hard. That's why I went back to school," said West El Paso resident Jessica Westin, who's now studying nursing.

"I think you can get a job pretty much anywhere with that. I felt that having a biology degree I had trouble finding jobs here."

El Paso is rated as fourth in the state in unemployment by the Texas Workforce Commission, and more than 31,000 residents are estimated to have been looking for work in August 2012, according to the agency.

"It's really competitive and so you really have to have that experience" said Westin. The advice i give to everybody who's going to school is just get the internships and get experience because without that it's really hard to get a job."

200 employers are expected to be at this year's job expo by Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande.

The 10th annual job expo will be held at the downtown convention center at 1 Civic Center on Santa Fe Street and Durango Street.
