El Paso DOT

EL PASO, Texas —

They can pop your tires and if you're not careful, potholes can also damage your car.

"It feels like I am in Mexico sometimes," said west El Pasoan Joel Munoz

Some El Pasoans say they've gone through their share of bumpy rides.

"There are some out there you got to be careful with, after you hit them a couple of times you know where they are and you are going to want to avoid them," said West El Pasoan Beto Villanueva

KFOX14 spoke to deputy director Richard Bristol of El Paso's department of transportation; he says crews are working around the clock to fill in pot holes.

"We try to be aggressive on it especially after it rains but I wouldn't say that they are falling behind, there are a lot of potholes out there," said Bristol

Bristol tells me when it does rain, it can cause an increase in potholes.

"Generally when we have a good rain within two to three weeks afterwards, sometimes even longer, we'll start seeing a lot of potholes develop," said Bristol, "So what you are seeing right now is the after effect from the storms we had a couple of weeks ago."

He says the city spends about $3.5 million a year repairing the potholes, and if they're not fixed right away, the holes could get worse, and that's something the city nor people driving over one, ever want to see.

If you want to report a pothole you can call El Paso at 311, or at (915) 621-6750.
