Deputy involved accident sends four to hospital

EL PASO COUNTY, Texas —

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a two car accident involving one of their own.

The accident happened on Horizon Boulevard at Ashford Street around 8:47 p.m. Sunday night


The accident closed the southbound lanes of Horizon Boulevard for more than three hours as deputies investigated.

A Special Traffic Investigator's  preliminary investigation revealed that that the passenger car was traveling northbound and the Sheriff’s Patrol Unit was traveling southbound on Horizon Blvd. when the driver of the passenger car attempted to turn left onto Ashford St. and failed to yield the right-of-way to the deputy traveling south.  

Both vehicles had extensive damage. 

Four people including the deputy were sent to the hospital.

The driver and their occupants were taken by ambulance to a local area hospital. The passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver's condition is unknown at this time. The deputy suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.  

The investigation continues.
