El Paso, TEXAS - —

Police have identified the names of two children killed in Saturday's pedestrian crash in northeast El Paso.

Police said Anne Marie Harrelson, 8, and Jonathan Macias, 3, were killed when Oscar Salazar 27, was driving a 2009 Toyota Scion and struck them while they were walking on the side of the road on the 12200 block of Dyer near Odell Lane.

Two other children, Guadalupe Macias, 11, and Fabian Harrelson, 15, were also hit and taken to the hospital with injuries. Family friends told KFOX14 Guadalupe is "okay," and will require surgery while Fabian is in critical but stable condition. A close family friend, Luis Carrillo, is called "Uncle" by the children. He told KFOX14 the family is "very devastated."

"Right now we are going through the worst pain," Carrillo said. "And to be honest, they don't have the money for the funeral services for two children," he said.

Carrillo said the children were walking to the Circle K convenience store, a walk they took every day.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Police said Salazar remained at the scene and called for help. Police said neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors and at this time, Salazar is not facing any charges.

The crash happened at about 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Neighbors who live in the rural area of town say they see too many people speeding down Dyer Street.

"It's 55 miles an hour, but you have people coming in from Alamogordo going 75 or higher sometimes," said neighborhood resident Allen Sandlin.

Sandlin also tells KFOX 14 that many of the kids have to walk 5 miles with no sidewalks to the nearest bus stop.

Carrillo asked that the community keep the children and their family in their prayers. "Right now we ask for the help of everyone," he said.
