EL PASO, Texas —

Election Day is over, but announcements on who will run in El Paso's next mayoral race were made Wednesday.

El Paso Rep. Steve Ortega officially announced his candidacy for mayor at the 1914 Lounge in downtown El Paso.

Ortega currently represents parts of theĀ eastside and lower valley.

"I see us being a mecca in the medical industry. I also see us utilizing our location along the border as a positive," Ortega said. "I think we need to work more in a regional manner and I see a more active and vibrant downtown."

On Monday, Ortega launched his bid for mayor through social media. In a Facebook post he confirmed his mayoral plans, saying, "I'm happy to announce that I'm running for Mayor of El Paso!"

Congressman-elect Beto O'Rourke and State Senator Jose Rodriguez were some of the local winners in Tuesday night's election at the event to support Ortega.

Ortega was a supporter of all three propositions that passed Tuesday.
