Little damage reported from apartment fire

By Jesse Martinez

El Paso Fire Department

EL PASO, Texas —

Brush alongside the walls of a three-story apartment complex caught fire Tuesday morning, and six apartments sustained light smoke damage.

Around 11:48 a.m., 25 firefighters and nine fire units responded to a fire at the apartment complex at 1140 E. Rio Grande Ave.

Tenants safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

Damage is estimated at $6,000, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

As dry conditions continue in the area, the El Paso Fire Department recommends practicing these safety tips to reduce the chances of brush fires:
• Do not discard cigarettes from moving vehicles; use ashtrays.
• Properly extinguish fires when cooking outdoors, and never leave fires unattended.
• Practice fire safety with your family. If you see a fire or smoke, call 911.
• Properly dispose of trash and debris.
