Law Enforcement Busy With Human Trafficking Busts

Smuggling Ring Intercepted

February 25, 2006 —

More illegal immigrants were found Saturday with help from local law enforcement.

All of this happened less than 24 hours after the Border Patrol took more than 200 immigrants into custody.

And it's kept law enforcement from federal to local busy this weekend.

At about 2:30 Saturday afternoon, El Paso police found what they thought to be illegal immigrants running into an apartment on Dale Street in the Lower Valley.

And that's when the police called Border Patrol officers for assistance, who later took six illegal immigrants from the apartment into custody. And this suprised many residents who live in the area, because neighbors KFOX spoke to say they have never seen something like this happen before.

But, the Border Patrol believes people smuggling and stash houses are all over El Paso, and it is recent interest by local authorities that has helped them crack down on this activity.

Which is exactly what happened Friday night when the El Paso Sheriff's Office helped to uncover a large scale smuggling ring where 232 illegal immigrants were found.
