Las Cruces Shooting Leaves 1 Dead

Las Cruces Police are continuing to investigate the death of 18-year-old Jessie Angel Torres who was taken to a local hospital Monday morning with a gunshot wound to his back.

Around 10:45 a.m. Monday, police were called to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces where Torres had been taken. Officers arrived to find Torres suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back.

Torres was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso, Texas, where he was pronounced dead at around 1 p.m. Monday.

Detectives have learned that the shooting may have accidentally occurred when a friend of Torres was attempting to unload a shotgun and it inadvertently discharged.

No arrests have been made and detectives are continuing to investigate this incident.
